2022 BIT Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (BIT SURE)


To be eligible for this research experience, applicants must:

  1. …be enrolled in an undergraduate degree program at NC State.
  2. …have available 29 hours each week for 10 weeks in the summer.
  3. …not be employed elsewhere at NC State University.
  4. …agree to present a research poster at the NC State Undergraduate Research Summer Symposium (Thursday, August 4th, 2022).


Students will receive up to $4060 stipend to help support expenses. This will be paid as an hourly wage of $14/hour for up to 29 hours per week. The total amount of compensation will depend on total hours worked and may vary depending on project schedules. The stipend may be substituted for class credit with permission of your mentor.

__ Statement of purpose (Describe your career goals, what you would like to gain from this experience, and how being selected could help you achieve those goals. Please limit it to 2 typed, single-sided, double-spaced pages – submit through Google Form)

__ 1 copy of undergraduate transcripts (unofficial transcripts will be accepted– submit through Google Form)

__ 2 letters of recommendation (excludes BIT 410 instructors) – must be sent by the referring individual (i.e. reference) directly to Dr. Stefanie Chen (

All application materials must be submitted by Friday, February 4th, 2022.
